Last night I was lucky enough to meet up with Pamela Hooper, a classmate and buddy from my time at Victoria University in Wellington.
She's doing what a lot of young Kiwis, Aussies, and Europeans do (and which is sorely lacking in many Americans' upbringings) which is taking a year off to travel around the world.
Pamela just came from spending time in Canada (another experience that some Americans miss out on) and decided to meet up with her friend Hannah from Wellington (a cop!) and come to New York. Hannah herself, while not touring the world, did however just come from Alaska (I know!) and is heading back to NZ in a couple of days.
It was just awesome to see and hang out with Pamela for a number of reasons: 1) We both realized that we never had much of a chance to hang out when I was in Wellington as we were all swamped with schoolwork, 2) Her enthusiasm for travel and theater and life in general is completely contagious and I found myself giddy within 10 minutes of seeing her, 3) She reminded me of what now feels like a dream - that I spent 8+ months in a country that has had a profound effect on me, and I can't wait to go back.
Mike and his bandmate Chad met up with us at the Broadway Lounge in the Marriott Marquee, and we all just had a fantastic time.
