Mike's Day 8: Rotorua and Taupo

Woke up fairly early in order to see more of Rotorua before our 11:00 am bus to Taupo.

Cute croquet players

After wandering around Government Gardens, we caught our bus to Taupo, where we met up with Brindha, Natalie, and Jerry.

Mike, me, Brindha

Our first destination once we met up with the gang was to the Prawn Farm, which happened to be in the vicinity of the Huka Jet, a jet boat that zooms along at 80 km an hour, and makes 360 degree spins. We were booked for the Huka Jet after the Prawn Farm.

Us and itty-bitty car

Jerry and Mike (and Shawn the Prawn)

Prawn fishing. We all, amazingly, had 'the one that got away'...

Waiting for our Huka Jet ride

Not us, but our boat.

Getting giddy!

Me, slightly damp

Heh

Us, slightly damper

They look worried

See why?

Huka Falls

Putting on a brave face

Survived Huka Falls, completely soaked

Next stop was to the natural (and free) hot spring. The river it emptied out onto was freezing, but the spring itself was unbelievably hot.

View of the Waitomo River, on our way to the hot spring

No, she's not nude

Rainbow Lodge, our lovely accommodation

Drinking wine out of mugs with our new friend Marco. Poor kid had no idea what he was in for.

Preparing to watch Whale Rider at the hostel.

If we can only figure out how to work the dang thing.

After the video, we decided to go into town for a couple of drinks. We wound up at Holy Cow, not realizing they were having a "special" event: Singled Out, where everyone gets a different name tag of one member of a famous couple (for instance, I was "Monica" and presumably there was someone wandering around named "Chandler"). Cowboy hats were also apparently part of the deal.

Needless to say, none of us met our match...

We did, however, console ourselves with an impromptu interpretive dance performance.

Did it work?
You tell me.
